Here are the top three stories today in Cartersville:

  1. The man accused of the 2008 murder of Lance Jay Bannister "showed up at the Bartow County Sheriff's Office in the middle of the night wanting to confess." The accused also took investigators to the site of the murder. Although the case has remained open since discovery of Bannister's body, "the agencies involved never stopped working this case," said GBI special agent Joe Montgomery. 2. The upcoming Glow for Life 5K at Sam Smith Park on March 25 will benefit Bartow Family Resources. This event will be a free family fun night with food trucks, "a bouncy house/blow up slide for kids" and "great music and fantastic fireworks." If you plan to participate in the run, registration is $35 per runner.(Subscription: The Daily Tribune News)
  3. Under Georgia State statute, it is required to notify the public of "director level positions [sic] top three candidates 14 days before a recommendation to the City Council." Steve Roberts, Brenton Baggett and Jeffrey Holstein are this position's top three, with Roberts being City Manager Don Porta's recommendation for hire. Porta will be "presenting his recommendation to the mayor and City Council" at the April 6 meeting. (wbhfradio.org)
