ACT Scores Released for Cartersville, Bartow Students

The Georgia Department of Education has released 2015 results for the ACT college entrance and placement exam, including scores for the Cartersville City School and counterparts in the Bartow County School systems.

Collectively, the Bartow County School System had 372 students in the class of 2015 take the exam. The system’s composite score was 20. For the Cartersville City Schools, 135 students took the exam and the district’s composite score was 21.7.

The ACT is taken in conjunction with or in lieu of the SAT. Students are scored in the areas of English, math, reading and science.

Broken down, the number of students taking the test and composite scores for each of the high schools in the county were:

Adairsville High School

• Number of students: 90
• Composite score: 20.1

Cartersville High School

• Number of students: 135
• Composite score: 21.7

Cass High School

• Number of students: 135
• Composite score: 19.3

Woodland High School

• Number of students: 147
• Composite score: 20.7

For the state, 2015 result show Georgia at the top of the pack among Southern states, outperforming Alabama, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, Florida, West Virginia, South Carolina, and Texas, the state Department of Education said.

Georgia students also scored higher than those in Colorado, Illinois, Michigan, Montana, North Dakota, Utah, Wyoming, Arkansas, Hawaii, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Arizona.

Georgia students’ average composite score increased from 20.8 last year to 21.0 this year, which is now equal to the national average.

Georgia’s ACT rank also increased from 30th in 2014 to 28th this year.
