Active Shooter Report At Cartersville High False: Police

Cartersville Police said an active shooter call Wednesday at Cartersville High was unfounded.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — A call Wednesday reporting an active shooter at Cartersville High School was a hoax, Cartersville Police said.

Police said students and staff members were never under any threat. The case is still being investigated.

Cartersville High is one of multiple schools where active shooter reports were made Wednesday morning.

Authorities were also called to Savannah Early College High School, Savannah High School, Brunswick High School, Camden County High School and Valdosta High School.

School officials in all of the respective districts have said investigations were completed, and there were no active shooters located at any of the schools. All of the districts reported no injuries and said all students are safe.

In a statement, Gov. Brian Kemp said the reports were part of "a cruel hoax." He said authorities searching school buildings included state troopers.

The hoax is being investigated by the FBI, Kemp said.

It is unknown where the hoax originated.
