Armed Robbery Suspect Killed By Store Manager Identified

The 24-year-old Decatur resident was one of three men who allegedly tried to rob a convenience store in Cartersville.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- Investigators with the Cartersville Police Department continue to work the case involving a convenience store manager who shot and killed one of three man allegedly trying to rob the business at gunpoint.

Decatur resident Ronald Deonte Johnson, 24, died in the shootout early Tuesday morning at Sunoco, which is located at 2471 U.S. 411, the agency confirmed to Patch late Wednesday afternoon.

Cartersville officers arrived on the scene around 3:30 a.m. Dec. 27, and was told that three men wearing dark clothing and masks entered the store and attempted to hold up the business.

Capt. Hubert Ledbetter with Cartersville police said the two remaining suspects fled the scene in a late-model, dark SUV bearing a temporary Georgia tag following the exchange of gunfire.

Those two men, he added, remain at large and their identities are unknown at this time.
