Bartow County Schools Provide Reopening Resource Guide

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The Bartow County School System has developed a reopening resource guide for students and parents to help answer some questions ahead of the 2020-21 school year following the closures due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Reopening Resource Guide provides three color-coded phases that have been defined by the Georgia Department of Education and Georgia Department of Public Health.

A green phase or school has no or low spread of coronavirus, a yellow phase or school has minimal or moderate spread of coronavirus, and a red phase or school has substantial spread of coronavirus.

In a green phase, schools will have both in-person and distance learning options, and there will be enhanced sanitation measures, staggered arrivals, transitions and dismissals; and minimal locker use.

In a yellow phase, in-person instruction will continue and schools may apply for distance learning options within three days of the new color designation. Regular instruction may be suspended for three days and students may move into a review period while students are rebalanced. No visitors will be allowed past the front office and no large group gatherings will be allowed during the school day.

In a red phase, long-term distance learning will be required for all students. Work will be graded as appropriate, and student meals will be provided.

District leaders will determine the color designation of a school based on current information from the department of public health, Bartow County Schools Superintendent Philip Page said in a letter to families.

Based on current conditions, Bartow County Schools plan to start the academic year on Aug. 5 with an option to participate in-person or through the Distance Learning Program.
