- Governor Brian Kemp announced 29 Georgia counties had received grants for internet expansion, including Bartow County. - City of Cartersville officials reported a 2,700 gallon sewer spill occurred near West Avenue on Jan. 4. Due to a sewer line failure and "excessive rainfall," Cartersville Water Department Director Sidney Forsyth indicated that the spill does not impact the City's drinking water in any way. "The location of the spill is such that it would have reached the Etowah River near the Highway 113 crossing, and the City's drinking water source is Lake Allatoona, approximately 9.5 miles upstream of this," he said. "The volume spilled was such that the dilution of the already diluted water would cause no harmful impacts to the river." (Subscription: The Daily Tribune News)
