Bartow Schools Won't Make Up Missed Snow Days

Students in the school system missed four days in February due to inclement weather.

Students in the Bartow County School System won’t have to worry about how they will make up for the classroom time lost during February’s inclement weather.

The Bartow County School System said on Thursday students won’t have to make up any missed days due to the inclement winter weather that rolled through the county the week of Feb. 23-27.

Two of the four days missed were declared as state of emergency days by Gov. Nathan Deal and, therefore, will not be made up, said system spokesperson Cheree Dye.

“Also, the state allows school systems five days for emergency situations that are not required to be made up each year,” she stated.

The two remaining days missed last week will fall under that allocation by the state, Dye added.

That leniency isn’t extended to teachers, however. Educators are required to make up those missed two days, which total 16 hours. Those hours can be made up through their time sheets, as no specific dates have been designated as make-up days.
