Bone Marrow Registry Drive Set For Jan. 28 in Cartersville

The registry campaign will be held at Cartersville Public Library.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- Organizers are hoping residents will come out and support a campaign to bolster a bone marrow registry.

The Be The Match for Kendall Morrow Donor Registry Drive will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28 at Cartersville Public Library.

Anyone between ages 18 and 44 is encouraged to participate in the process, which will involve filling out paper work and submitting to a cheek swab. The on-site process is expected to last about 15 minutes.

Saturday's event will benefit Kendall Womack, a nursing student at Shorter University. In August 2016, Womack was in the midst of her studies when she became ill.

Earlier this month, she was diagnosed with MonoMAC, an extremely rare genetic disorder. The best hope for a cure for Womack is a bone marrow transplant, and the event will help in finding a match for the student.

If you are unable to attend Saturday's event, you can go online to begin the process of joining the registry.

On the website, a series of questions -- including a brief medical history -- will be asked during the registration process, which should take around 10 minutes.

The Cartersville Public Library is located at 429 West Main Street. For more information about what to expect during Saturday's campaign, visit the Be The Match website.
