Boyfriend Shot Woman In Hand, Shoulder Near Elementary School
A report released by the Bartow County Sheriff's Office is providing new details about the July 22 shooting near an elementary school.

CARTERSVILLE, GA, — An incident report released by the Bartow County Sheriff's Office has provided a few more details in the shooting of a woman Sunday afternoon near Cloverleaf Elementary School.
A deputy was dispatched to a call of a gunshot victim around 3:20 p.m. July 22 in the area of Highway 20 Spur SE near Sakkau Drive in Cartersville. The deputy was flagged down by a witness who said he found an injured woman near his storage shed asking for help.
The woman, the deputy noted in his report was, "covered in blood," and had been shot in her right hand and shoulder. EMS crews responded to the scene and prepared to transport the woman to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment.

While she was being prepped for transport, the woman told the deputy that she and her boyfriend, identified as David Ferrell Brooks, were visiting friends in the area. As they were traveling on the road in a vehicle, Brooks allegedly shot her as she sat in the backseat. The report does not indicate whether Brooks was sitting in the front or back at the time of the shooting.

Warrants were issued for Brooks' arrest, and he was taken into custody just after 6 p.m. Sunday by Paulding County sheriff's deputies. The Bartow County Sheriff's Office previously told Patch detectives that the woman is expected to recover from her injuries.
Brooks, an Acworth resident, is charged with aggravated assault with a gun, and he was booked into the Bartow County Jail Sunday evening. As of Thursday, Brooks was also charged with felony probation violation and remains held without bond.
