Cartersville police were dispatched around 3:17 a.m. March 28 to BP at 122 Old Mill Road in reference to the activation of an alarm's glass break sensor.

The officer making his way to the scene was informed by Bartow County dispatchers that the key holder to the business could see an individual inside the store through his security cameras, an incident report released by Cartersville police states.

The store's rear door had been force open and when the officer entered the store, he made contact with a male suspect, later identified as 22-year-old Colby Aaron Trotter, walking down one of the aisles with items in his hands, the report alleges.

Trotter, according to the report, dropped those items and bolted for the front door. When he realized another officer was in the store, the suspect suspended his attempt to escape and appeared to comply.

However, the officer notes Trotter began to resist arrest when he attempted to handcuff the suspect, according to the report. At that time, another officer arrived on the scene to assist and the 22-year-old continued to resist.

"I then told the suspect multiple times to give me his hands or he was going to be tased," the officer wrote. "The suspect continued to resist and I drive stunned him in his back. I then instructed him to give me his hands or he would be tased again. The suspect continued to resist, but we were able to gain control of his hands before it became necessary to drive stun him again."

Trotter was searched, placed into a patrol vehicle and transported to the Bartow County Jail. The reports notes Trotter dropped a six-pack of Fat Tire beer, four Smirnoff screwdriver beverages and four White Owl Mango Cigarillos in his effort to flee captivity.

The estimated damage to the front door was $1,750, and the damage to the rear was $1,500, the incident report states.

Booking records show Trotter is charged with two counts of felony obstruction of an officer, burglary, criminal trespass damage to property, criminal damage to property in the second degree and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.
