Cartersville, Bartow School Boards Call For Election On E-SPLOST Renewal
Both systems would like to use sales tax revenue to make improvements to schools and facilities.

The school boards tasked with providing quality public education for students in the Bartow County and Cartersville City school systems are calling on the county to hold an election to consider the renewal of the education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.

The boards both held a joint meeting last week and approved a resolution, which calls for the election to take place Nov. 3, 2015.
The Cartersville City School System would like to use sales tax revenue to implement system-wide technology improvements; renovate, repair, improve, and equip existing school buildings, athletic facilities and other buildings and facilities; acquire and install playgrounds at existing schools; acquire land for the expansion of Cartersville High School and for future schools; acquire school buses and other vehicles; and acquire any necessary property the system may need in the future.

The city school system would like to do this at a cost of no more than $34 million.
For Bartow County, it would like to use no more than $110 million to build one replacement elementary school and a new transportation and maintenance facility; acquire land for future schools; make instructional and administrative technology improvements; purchase new school buses and other vehicles; renovate, add to, repair and equip existing schools, athletic facilities and other buildings; and to also acquire property needed in the future.
Along with the renewal, the Bartow School Board is also proposing to issue general obligation bonds in the amount of $45 million to help fund the projects. A YES vote on the renewal for the Bartow County School System would constitute the approval of the bonds.
Sales tax proceeds would be used to pay back the debt.
