Cartersville City Manager To Retire In 2018
Sam Grove's last day on the job he's held for 21 years will be June 30, 2018.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- Cartersville's longest serving city manager has announced his plans to retire from the post he's held for more than two decades. Sam Grove said his tenure with the city will end June 30, 2018.
Grove, who said his role in Cartersville "has been one of the highest honors of my professional career," said his time has been marked by many accomplishments. He also thanked city staff and current and past mayors and City Council members for helping the city of Cartersville achieve those goals. Their hard work and devotion to the city, he said, is "unmatched."

“We have accomplished much during my time as city manager," he added. "As with anything in life, this has been a team effort and I am grateful to many for being allowed to be a part of it.”
Between now and his retirement, Grove said he will focus on getting new City Council members up to speed before they are sworn into office, working on the city's 2018 goals, developing the upcoming fiscal year budget and continue the work already underway in the city's Recreation and Parks, Water and Gas department. He also said he will make sure the city provides "essential, affordable and dependable service to the residents and businesses of Cartersville."

While he has no plans of moving from Cartersville, Grove said he plans to spend his free time with his family and doing some traveling.
Grove has been Cartersville city's manager since August 1996. Before coming to Bartow County, Grove served as city administrator in Branson, Missouri, from 1985 to 1996. Before that, he was employed in various staff and management positions with the city of Wichita Falls, Texas, from 1981 to 1985. He was also employed by Volunteers in Service to America and was assigned to the Minnesota Community Design Center between 1980 and 1981.
Originally from Frankfort, Indiana, Grove holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs and has been an International City/County Management Association credentialed manager since 2003.
