According to The Daily Tribune News, the council on Thursday rejected a request from Euharlee Creek Outfitters owner Ron Thomas to obtain a special use permit to operate a proposed outdoor kayak/canoe/tube and campsite on 20 acres at Floyd’s Landing.
City staff notes the landing for years has been an informally operating outdoor recreation area on Euharlee Road. The land is mostly located within the floodplain area and backs up to the Etowah River.

According to the Tribune, the land was developed by the late Henry Floyd for residents to enjoy, but had to be closed to the public due to vandalism and squatters moving onto the property.
The property is zone single family residential, and the city notes there are single family homes to the east and west of the property.
The Floyd family has been working with Thomas to manage the property, and the city has been working with Thomas to manage land uses for the 20 acres.
Thomas wanted the permit to operate the commercially-managed site in the single-family residential area, the Tribune states.
The Cartersville Planning Commission recommended denial of the request.
