Cartersville Runs To Remember 9/11

CARTERSVILLE, GA — On Saturday, Cartersville said, “Together we run.”

The community came together for the inaugural “9/11 Run To Remember” 5K race, which consisted of a race to raise money for the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation, and a remembrance ceremony for 9/11.

The race, which was planned in conjunction with the Cartersville Police and Fire Departments, took runners from Cartersville Fire Department Station #1 on Erwin Street, through a fire station as first responders cheered them on, along Cassville Road, and eventually to Cherokee Avenue. Registration cost $25.

“This is a great way to honor the first responders for both that day 20 years ago as well as locally, it’s a great cause, you get to see a fire station, which is super cool to go through it. You’ll see a lot of the first responders passing out water, you’ll see the trucks, just some really unique things that the average citizen doesn’t get to see day-to-day, so it’s a really great cause, it’s a great ultimate cause for the funds that are being raised for the Georgia Burn Foundation, so it’s a wonderful way to donate to that cause, but also to honor the day,” Matt Terry, who co-owns Wire2Wire Running which helped organize the race, said in a promotional video.

After the hour-and-fifteen-minute race, awards were given to the top three overall male and female winners in an awards ceremony at Friendship Plaza. This was followed by a tribute to Sept. 11 from local officials and first responders.
