The second hearing will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20 at the same location.

The district must submit its renewal application by Nov. 1. The current charter expires June 2015, and the system will be seeking a 10-year renewed charter. The charter provides the school system and its schools flexibility in operations and delivery of educational services in exchange for higher expectations for student achievement.

Board members during their meeting will also consider final approval on its policy regarding weapons, which emphasizes the system’s prohibition of weapons at school, on school grounds, at school functions and makes a provision in disciplinary consequences on a case-by-case basis.
