Cartersville School Board President Resigns
Linda Benton submitted her resignation Monday evening, and Tim Chason was appointed to serve out her unexpired term.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- Longtime Cartersville City School Board President Linda Benton has resigned from the post she's held for more than 20 years.
Benton announced her intentions during the board's Monday, July 10 meeting. Tim Chason, a former school board member, was approved to serve out the remainder of Benton's term, which expires in December 2019.
Chason previously served on the board from 2004 to 2012.

"I'm very humbled that Linda has asked me to fill the position," he told Patch. "I'm also extremely honored that the members of the school board voted to accept me on the board. Linda has been the face the voice and the listening ear for the Cartersville School System for many years. Her dedication to the position is an indication of her character. She truly believes in helping people from all walks of life grow in terms of achievement and success. She leaves behind a very positive legacy on the Cartersville School System and thousands of people."
Benton was first elected in 1994, and was tapped to serve as president in 2000.

In other business, school board members voted to approve setting its millage rate at 16.192 mills provided that there's not a significant change to the preliminary 2017 tax digest of $905.6 million.
