The school system lost four instructional days the last week of February due to snow and ice that blanketed the city and Bartow County.

Bell said Superintendent Dr. Howard Hinesley will ask the School Board at its March 9 meeting to forgive the the three additional days in accordance with State Board of Education rule 16-5-1.02.

Part of the rule stipulates local boards of education “may, without the necessity of authorization from the SBOE (State Board of Education), elect not to complete, as make-up days, up to four additional days otherwise needed which are the result of days when school was closed due to emergency, disaster, act of God, civil disturbance, or shortage of vital or critical material, supplies, or fuel as provided in O.C.G.A. § 20-2-168(c)(3).”

The school system will notify parents of the decision via School Messenger, its Facebook page and its website.
