Cartersville Voters Say Yes To Parks Bond
Sixty-seven percent of votes approved the bond, which would be used to pay for the maintenance of parks facilities.

Voters in Cartersville gave their stamp of approval to a proposed $8 million parks and recreation bond.
Unofficial results show residents approved the measure 67 percent, or 3,051 votes, to 33 percent, or 1,487 votes.

The $8 million bond would be used for the maintenance of facilities and to expand two walking trails throughout the city.
Bartow County School Board District 1 incumbent Republican John Howard was re-elected to another term. Howard defeated Democratic challenger Paul Nally with 77 percent, or 3,127 votes, to Nally’s 23 percent, or 921 votes.

State House District 15 voters also re-elected its incumbent representative. Republican Paul Battles defeated Democratic opponent Dylan Patrick with 76 percent, or 9,174 votes, to Patrick’s 24 percent, or 2,909 votes.
Voters in the northwest city of Adairsville also gave the green light to Sunday package sales and sales by the drink.
The package sales initiative passed with 60 percent, or 460 votes, to 40 percent, or 305 votes. Sales by the drink was approved with 59 percent, or 451 votes, to 41 percent, or 311 votes.
Cartersville and Bartow County residents also backed Republican candidates at the state level.
Incumbent Governor Nathan Deal was the preferred candidate, winning 72 percent, or 17,993 votes. Democratic challenger Jason Carter received 25 percent, or 5,613 votes while Libertarian candidate Andrew Hunt received 3.2 percent, or 727, votes in Bartow County. That race has been called for Deal.
In the U.S. Senate race, David Perdue carried Bartow County with 74 percent, or 16,823 votes, compared to Democrat Michelle Nunn’s 24 percent, or 5,433 votes. Libertarian Amanda Swafford received 2.64 percent, or 604 votes in Bartow. That race has also been called for Perdue.
Over in the state school superintendent race, Republican Richard Woods garnered 76 percent, or 17,079 votes, to Democratic challenger Valerie Wilson’s 24 percent, or 5,467 votes.
