Here are the top three stories in Cartersville today:

  1. The Cartersville City Council has approved a resolution for City manager Dan Porta to sign documents relating to an opioid settlement agreement "with several major companies — including Walmart, Walgreens and CVS." How much money the city will receive from the settlement is unclear. Cartersville Assistant City Attorney Keith Lovell stated that the state could choose to "opt in and receive all of the money, and then they could distribute it however they wanted to." (Subscription: The Daily Tribune News)
  2. A wreck in Gordon County Tuesday afternoon claimed the life of a 21-year-old Cartersville man. Around 3 p.m., a tractor trailer driver turned left from Highway 41 southbound onto the Calhoun Bypass on a yellow arrow. The motorcycle driver was traveling northbound on Highway 41 with a green light and collided with the rear end of the tractor trailer. The motorcycle driver died after being transported to AdventHealth Gordon. (WRGA)
  3. The owners of the land of the "proposed greenspace" are now considering selling the land to the state of Georgia. Their asking price, said to be "in the hundreds of millions" of dollars, has not been met in those talks with the state. If the deal with the state falls through, the family will go ahead with the "proposed greenspace" development. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)

Partnering with the parks and the Aimee Copeland Foundation to bring these to the parks has been a great victory! Ten Georgia State Parks have these chairs available for free use for qualifying guests. The chairs can be used for hiking, hunting, fishing and other outdoor education and recreational activities. So as you start to make your spring plans, now is the perfect time to apply for chair use and start exploring!" (Friends of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites via Facebook)
  • Hoods Up! Weekend is back at the Savoy Automobile Museum Feb. 24, 25 and 26. (Savoy Automobile Museum via Facebook)
