Here are the top stories today in Cartersville:
- An Illinois man posing as a representative of the contracting firm that is "conducting sewer line improvements along Mission Road" scammed the city of Cartersville. Construction has not been affected by the scam and new policies are being put into place to avoid this happening in the future. The nearly half million-dollar loss is being investigated by police and the funds will be reimbursed to the city by Truist and Ameris banks. (Subscription: The Daily Tribune News)
- Cartersville-Bartow Metropolitan Planning Organization Transportation Planner Tom Sills has announced more roundabouts are planned in Bartow County. On Cass-White Road alone, there are "five proposed or built roundabouts." There is also a roundabout coming to Douthit Ferry Road and one being considered at the intersection of Old Alabama Road and Hwy 61. "There are significant safety benefits to roundabouts as opposed to a four-way intersection," says Sills. (Subscription: The Daily Tribune News)
- A three-member panel recommended the removal of Judge Christian Coomer who is accused of depositing election funds into his own law firm's bank account to avoid being overdrawn and using election funds to fund overseas vacations. The Georgia Appeals Court judge is also accused of defrauding one of his clients of money and making himself the beneficiary of her will. The Georgia Supreme Court will now decide whether to remove him from his position. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
