Clark Millsap, Steve Taylor Fight Off Primary Challengers

The race to become Bartow County's next chief magistrate judge will go into a runoff.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- Bartow County voters have spoken, and it appears they are fine with their incumbents serving as sheriff and sole county commissioner.

Sheriff Clark Millsap and Sole County Commissioner Steve Taylor both fought off primary challengers for their respective seats, unofficial election results from the Georgia Secretary of State's Office show.

Millsap has defeated his two challengers -- Steve Holloway and Tommy Culpepper -- with 54.86 percent, or 5,259 votes. Holloway is polling second at 24.66 percent or 2,364 votes and Culpepper at 20.49 percent or 1,964 votes.

Taylor can also declare victory over challenger Harry Pugliese, as he has received 64.81 percent, or 6,107 votes. Pugliese is currently polling at 35.19 percent, or 3,316 votes.

One race -- the Bartow County chief magistrate court race -- will go into a runoff, however. Candidate Brandon Bryson is leading with 35.03 percent, or 3,260 votes. He's followed by Bobby Wilson at 25.47 percent or 2,370 votes; Freddie Gunn at 14.44 percent or 1,344 votes, Barbara Martin at 14.10 percent or 1,312 votes and Tony Ross at 10.96 percent or 1,020 votes.

While the results are not in for all precincts in the Georgia 11th Congressional District race, Barry Loudermilk is projected to win the election without facing a runoff.

Loudermilk led the race early as election results came in, and never relinquished his lead over challengers Daniel Cowan, William Llop, Hayden Collins and Billy Davis, leading by as much as 61 percent of the vote with almost 50 percent of precincts reporting.

If that lead holds steady, Loudermilk will face Democrat Don Wilson this November in the heavily Republican district.
