Clown Rumors Reach Bartow County, Sheriff Issues Warning

Bartow County Sheriff Clark Millsap said anyone dressed as clowns caught committing criminal acts will be charged.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- It appears reports of clown sightings across Georgia have reached the Cartersville area, and Bartow County's top lawman is not taking the subject lightly.

The Bartow County Sheriff's Office has issued a warning to anyone who dresses up as clowns "for the purpose of criminal mischief," Sheriff Clark Millsap said.

Residents in the county have reported seeing people dressed as clowns in various areas after dark. Specifically, one resident on Lusk Avenue near Cartersville called 911 asking for help "after hearing her back door being shaken."

"When she looked outside she saw two persons wearing clown clothes and makeup – one with a wig and red nose and the other with a jester hat," the agency added.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the home, but did not locate anyone dressed as a clown. The citizen stated her neighbors also reported seeing two clowns in the area.

Anyone who engages in behavior such as this can face charges "if caught committing acts of criminal trespass, disorderly conduct, or loitering and prowling," Millsap said.

Residents are also encouraged to call 911 if they see any suspicious activity.
