Here are the top three stories today in Cartersville:

  1. A Cartersville City Council member was arrested for DUI and other offenses. The city of Cartersville's sixth ward representative, Taff Wren, was arrested in the early morning hours on Dec. 24 for driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding and a hands-free device requirement violation. Wren has been accused of driving under the influence at least twice before and as of Dec. 27, remains a member of the Cartersville City Council. Subscription: The Daily Tribune News)
  2. Etowah Indian Mounds will begin repatriation of Native American artifacts. The Etowah Indian Mounds State Historic Site and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources will soon begin repatriating the hundreds of ancestral Muscogee artifacts and funerary belongings to culturally affiliated tribes. For nearly two decades beginning in 1954, archaeologists excavated areas throughout the site and artifacts have been on display in the site's museum since the early 1960s. While human remains are no longer on display, the ancestors have yet to be repatriated and reburied and are currently housed in a facility. (Henry Herald)
  3. Mayor Santini complains about homelessness. Many of the religious groups and churches in Bartow County lend a helping hand to our community's homeless population. Cartersville Mayor Matt Santini maintains it is only aggravating the matter. "I think they're trying to be kind, but their kindness is drawing more of the problem here," he commented. "Most of these people that are choosing the lifestyle, they're either avoiding incarceration, they're addicted, but they won't do nothing about it," he said. "Or they think 'you guys are the dumbasses, you guys are out here working all day long for something, and I'm right here just doing whatever the hell I want and I'm getting by.'"
