Dellinger Park Lake "Properly Restored," City Says

Cartersville Parks and Recreation staff had to remove dozens of dead fish that surfaced in the lake last week.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- After a nauseating discovery of dozens of fish that perished last week at Cartersville's Dellinger Park lake, it appears the situation is finally taking a turn for the positive.

The city said Wednesday that the lake has been properly restored and "is looking good."

The development came days after the city was notified of the untimely demise of marine species at the lake, which is a popular fishing tournament spot for Cartersville and area residents.

Following the discovery, biologists with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources made the trip to Cartersville to assess the situation.

The lake was tested last Thursday and it was determined that the "oxygen level was too low because of too many ducks, geese and fish," the city added on its Facebook page.

Now that the lake is returning back to its normal state, the city's Parks and Recreation Department will continue to monitor the water for anything that could be amiss, it noted Wednesday.

This doesn't mean everything will return to the way things were. The city has posted a sign strongly encouraging visitors not to feed any wildlife in the area.
