Driver Leads Police On High-Speed Chase In Cartersville

The woman allegedly ignored commands to stop so crews could put out a vehicle fire on Interstate 75 in Bartow County.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- A Norcross woman was booked into the Bartow County Jail on a slew of charges after she failed to stop while sheriff's deputies and firefighters worked to put out a vehicle fire along Interstate 75 in Cartersville.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, a trooper was assisting with working the scene of the car fire around 12:45 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25 on the southbound side of I-75 at mile marker 288. All southbound lanes of the interstate were blocked so the fire department could respond to the incident. As the second fire engine arrived on the scene, the trooper was eyeing the burning vehicle and traffic when he heard a Bartow County sheriff's deputy yell at a motorist to stop.

The trooper spotted a dark-in-color 1999 Toyota Camry accelerating past other patrol cars and was barreling towards him. Returning to his patrol car, the trooper pursued the motorist, who was later identified as Aaliyah Huriyyah Saahir, 29.

She regained control and continued westbound on the highway, while failing to maintain lane on a consistent basis, improperly passing other motorists, driving in an erratic manner, speeding and failing to signal that she was changing lanes, the trooper added.

She eventually slowed down as the trooper tried the first of three PIT maneuvers. Saahir turned around and traveled back towards Interstate 75, which allowed the trooper to try the second PIT maneuver.

"The vehicle traveled across the raised median and spun out on the westbound side of Georgia 113," the trooper added.

Saahir then tried to get back onto the eastbound side and the trooper conducted the third and final maneuver, which caused the car to travel across the median and come to a rest in westbound lanes. The Norcross resident was removed from the vehicle, handcuffed and taken into custody.
