Fatal Workplace Accident Remains Under Investigation

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- Funeral services will be held this week for the Shaw Industries employee who died Saturday in a workplace accident.

The family of Aragon resident David Alan Holland, 55, will hold a memorial service at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 7 at Sardis United Methodist Church, according to his obituary. Holland's family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 6 at Freeman Harris Funeral Home.
Crews with Bartow County Emergency Medical Services were dispatched in the afternoon of April 2 to Plant 15 at 5225 U.S. 411 in unincorporated Cartersville in response to the emergency.

Bartow EMS spokesperson Brad Cothran said Holland "had no signs of life" by the time first responders arrived on the scene.
Susan Farris, a Shaw Industries spokesperson, said the associate died "during routine maintenance" at the plant.
"The health and safety of Shaw’s associates is our top priority," the company said. "Shaw will be conducting an investigation into the matter. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of our associate."
On Tuesday, a Shaw Industries said the company as well as the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration continue to investigate the accident.
