Former City Clerk Indicted On Theft Charges
Cartersville resident Aimee Abernathy is accused of making fraudulent payments to herself while working for the city of Waleska.

WALESKA, GA -- The former city clerk for the city of Waleska has been indicted on two counts of felony theft by taking.
A Cherokee County grand jury this indicted Jennifer Aimee Abernathy, who resides in Cartersville, on charges related to allegations of missing city funds.
Waleska is located about six miles northwest of Canton and is home to Reinhardt University.

According to the indictment, Abernathy allegedly made unlawful payroll payments to herself amounting to roughly $25,000 between August 2012 and October 2015.
She is also accused of using the city's credit accounts for personal purchases worth at least $5,000.

Abernathy, who initially resigned from her post in October, was arrested in January following a four-week investigation initiated by the Cherokee Sheriff's Office. She posted bond after her January arrest.
