Free Skin Cancer Screening Set For May 4
Northwest Georgia Dermatology and The Hope Center will host a free public screening for skin cancer on May 4th.

CARTERSVILLE, GA - From the Cartersville Medical Center: The Hope Center and Northwest Georgia Dermatology will be holding a free American Academy of Dermatology SPOTme™ skin cancer screening on Friday, May 4 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Northwest Georgia Dermatology located in The Hope Center at 100 Market Place Blvd., Suite 300.
“Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer and everyone is at risk, even those with darker skin colors,” said Keith Harris, MD. “While skin cancer is highly treatable when caught early, it can be deadly. That’s why free screenings like this one are so important.”
In 2016, over 100 area individuals participated in the free screening event; of that number, 21 received recommendation for biopsy.

"Unlike other cancers, skin cancer can be detected by a dermatologist during a visual exam of your skin,” said Dr. Harris. “A skin cancer screening only takes a few minutes and it could save your life.”
SPOTme™ is the free skin cancer screening program of the American Academy of Dermatology. Since 1985, Academy dermatologists have conducted more than 2.4 million free skin cancer screenings and have detected nearly 238,000 suspicious lesions, including more than 26,500 suspected melanomas.
