Ga. Congressman Loudermilk, Wife Injured In Car Accident In Tennessee

Barry Loudermilk and his wife, Desiree, were on I-40 in Knoxville when their vehicle was hit from behind, causing it to flip several times.

KNOXVILLE, TN -- A Georgia congressman and his wife were injured in a two-car accident while making the drive from the Peach State to Washington, D.C. The office of U.S. Barry Loudermilk, a Republican who resides in Bartow County, said the lawmaker and his wife, Desiree, were involved in the collision reported in Knoxville Tuesday morning.

The Loudermilks had been in Georgia to help with the Hurricane Irma response, but decided to make the drive back to the nation's capital after the storm blew through the state. The couple were traveling eastbound on Interstate 40 when their vehicle was hit from behind by another car, "causing their vehicle to leave the road and flip multiple times, coming to rest on the passenger side," his office said.

"Both the Congressman and Mrs. Loudermilk were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries where they were treated and released," the office added. "They have been instructed to return to Georgia for follow-up treatment. The Loudermilk's immediately acknowledged God’s hand in protecting them from serious injury, and they would appreciate your thoughts and prayers as they recover."
