GDOT To Widen Highway 140 in Bartow, Floyd Counties

The $56 million project, which spans 6 miles, is expected to wrap up in June 2021.

BARTOW COUNTY, GA -- Work will soon begin on plans to widen S.R. 140 in Floyd and Bartow counties.

The Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded a contract to G P Enterprises, Inc. valued at $56.4 million for the construction project.

The project includes the widening of 6.2 miles on the highway from S.R. 53 in Floyd County and extending to just west of Oothkalooga Creek near Adairsville. The roadway will be widened from two to four lanes with a 44-foot grassed median. The project will transition from the four lanes with 44-foot grassed median to an urban section with four lanes and a 20-foot raised concrete median at the end of the project.

Georgia DOT notes S.R. 140 serves as a Surface Transportation Assistance Act (STAA) truck route providing access to I-75. It also serves as a local school bus route.

The area is witnessing fast economic development and even faster increases in traffic volume, and the project will accommodate both the current and projected traffic along the corridor.
