First, today's weather:

Here are the top three stories today in Cartersville:

  1. Georgia Highlands College President Dr. Mike Hobbs recently announced that the college has started a new "Ready to Start" scholarship for any student who falls a bit short of paying their tuition. Hobbs spoke about wanting to see more activity back on the campuses and encouraging more community involvement in the decisions college administrators make.(WRGA News)
  2. Georgia Department of Public Health Northwest Health District has received limited doses of monkeypox vaccine. These vaccines are available at no cost to qualified individuals. (Northwest Georgia Public Health)
  3. The suspect, 57-year-old Jamison Edward Hardin of White, reportedly shot in self-defense as he said the victim pulled a knife and charged at him at an incident on Tennessee Street. Hardin allegedly said that he had had previous issues with the man, had a court order against him and that security cameras captured the incident. The official warrant states that the suspect fired a total of 15 rounds and the victim's car was intentionally hit. (wbhfradio.org)
