  1. Bartow County Commissioner Steve Taylor gave his approval for the rezoning of about 32 acres along Old Grassdale Road for a projected townhome development next to Gerdau. However, the request to rezone roughly 11 acres near Burnt Hickory Road and Cline Drive for a townhome project was rejected. (Subscription: Daily Tribune News)
  2. On July 1, the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (USG) named Dr. Mike Hobbs as the new president of Georgia Highlands College (GHC). As an almost 30-year veteran of the higher education system, Hobbs most recently held the position of vice president for student affairs at Jefferson State Community College in Alabama since 2018. Prior to serving in numerous positions at Jefferson State, he was the coordinator of admission services at University of Alabama at Birmingham. (Video: WRGA)
  3. Dr. Miniyar's Pediatrics P.C. and Amerigroup provided local students with free school supplies last week. The Back to School event kicked off on July 12 and continued until Friday. Dr. Miniyar's Pediatrics P.C also announced that it will be hosting a Wellness Fun Festival on Thursday, July 28.
