To mark the milestone, the organization has planned a year of events to engage the community and thank them for decades of support. The festivities will start with mini birthday parties at each of its more than 110 locations where staff will hand out fortune cookies to donors, shoppers and job seekers, while supplies last. Nestled inside more than one hundred cookies is a fortune good for a $90 Goodwill gift card.

“We’re celebrating something many businesses never achieve, 90 years of operation and service to the community,” said Director of Public Relations Elaine Armstrong. “When our founders opened the doors on June 19, 1925, they were looking for a way to help curb Atlanta’s employment challenges during a difficult time in our nation’s history. Today, our mission remains the same, and we continue their legacy by helping more than 16,000 North Georgians find work this year.”

Goodwill has launched a microsite dedicated to its 90th birthday. It will serve as a hub for all news and events related to the yearlong celebration. The site features an interactive historical timeline and video birthday wishes from local leaders and supporters. Soon, website visitors will also be able to obtain a copy of Donations to Vocations, the historical book the nonprofit has published, via the site.

“We owe our success to the entire North Georgia community,” said President Raymond Bishop. “They have supported our mission through their donations, purchases, partnerships and volunteerism. But it’s not just the community. It’s our employees that have made and continue to make Goodwill of North Georgia the organization that it is. This year we celebrate an historic anniversary. We owe it to the community and to our team to pause and show our appreciation.”
