Highway 293 To Close Friday Night For Bridge Repair
The highway will be closed Nov. 18-21 at the U.S. 41 overpass in Emerson to repair damaged caused by an oversized truck.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- The Georgia Department of Transportation is advising motorists of plans to close a segment of a major highway so crews can repair a bridge.
S.R. 293/Cassville Road in Emerson will close this weekend to accommodate repairs to a damaged beam on the U.S. 41 bridge over Highway 293 and the CSX railroad.
The highway will be closed at the bridge overpass from 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21. Traffic will be re-routed off the highway onto U.S. 41/Joe Frank Harris Parkway and Old Alabama Road.

“We certainly hope that all motorists watch out for these detour signs and be extra cautious while approaching this work zone,” said DeWayne Comer, district engineer at the Georgia DOT office in Cartersville. “We understand that the closure of Highway 293 at this location may cause some inconvenience and delays, but it is necessary for repairing the bridge as quickly as possible and giving the roadway back to the local traffic and traveling public."
The project is part of plans to rehabilitate the bridge along U.S. 41 over the railroad crossing and the highway. The process involves heat straightening of damaged steel beams, repairing and replacing steel structural member, and painting steel superstructure.

Work is expected to wrap up by the end of December, with a construction cost of $219,755. The bridge was hit by an oversized truck that damaged the steel beams a few months ago.
The Georgia DOT urges motorists in Bartow County to watch out for the message boards at the closing points on S.R. 293 and signs along the detour route.
