I-75 Rest Areas To Close For Renovations

The $3 million project will overhaul the look of the two rest areas in Gordon County.

CALHOUN, GA — Starting Monday, Jan. 29, the two rest areas on Interstate 75 in Gordon County will close for renovations. During this time, motorists will have no access to the property, driveways, parking areas or buildings during the project.

Signs will be posted, informing visitors of the scheduled closures, which is expected to last no longer than five months.

Remodeling and renovation of both rest areas — one of each on the northbound and southbound side — will include repairs to the parking lot, sidewalks, ADA-compliant paths of travel, drainage system and picnic canopy; replacement of the roof and gutter and HVAC systems; installtion of LED exterior and interior lighting and occupancy sensors; replacing existing toilet fixtures with automatic flush valves, floor tiles, counter, mirrors, electric hand dryers and walls and ceilings.

The project is slated to cost $3 million, and all major work is expected to be done by the end of 2018. Funds for the renovation and beautification of the Georgia welcome centers and rest areas come from the Georgia LOGO program, which offers businesses the chance to advertise along highway interchanges through placement of names and logos on signs approaching exits. The program generates about $3.3 million on an annual basis.
