Cast a Ballot: Presidential Primary Today

It's Super Tuesday and Georgia has 76 delegates up for grabs. The only question on the ballot for many local voters is which Republican presidential candidate should get the party's nomination. Democratic voters will have the opportunity to show their support for President Barack Obama, the only candidate in the party's primary.

Eight of Bartow County's 17 polling places—all of which are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.—are in Cartersville:

Elections Supervisor Joseph Kirk warned of likely poll delays, citing , or 1,261, took advantage of early in-person voting. He expects 40 to 45 percent of Bartow's voters to cast ballots in the primary, about 23,000 to 26,000 people.

And Kirk may be right. Bartow County Republican Party Chairman Louis DeBroux last month said the local GOP has seen " for obvious reasons," citing polls he says indicate conservatives and most independents "are greatly concerned with the direction [in which] our country is going right now."

County residents also will vote in Acworth, Adairsville, Emerson, Euharlee, Kingston, Rydal, Taylorsville and White.

Although a number of Republican contenders are listed on the ballot, only four remain in the running:

Newt Gingrich

Ron Paul

Mitt Romney

Rick Santorum

Last month, we asked would be. Of the 168 votes, 48 percent said Santorum, 26 percent chose Gingrich, 20 percent picked Paul and only 7 percent clicked for apparent frontrunner Romney.

Those unscientific poll results don't mirror Bartow's campaign donations, as Santorum had received the least local cash of the four as of Jan. 31. may not be a surprise.
