Here are the top three stories in Cartersville today:
- Governor Brian Kemp has appointed a state House of Representatives Floor Leader Team to help guide legislation. One of the four floor leaders is Matthew Gambill (R-Cartersville). Gambill's service as floor leader will run "concurrent with his service as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives." (wbhfradio.org)
- The Etowah Jazz Society will hold a Valentine's Day Concert on Feb. 12 at the Clarence Brown Conference Center from 4 PM to 6:30 PM. Later that week, Sixes Tavern will host Casino Night, featuring a buffet, music, silent auction and, of course, casino games on Feb. 18 beginning at 7 PM. Both of these events are benefiting the Etowah Valley Humane Society, a non-profit organization which "serves as the adoption and rescue outlet for Bartow County Animal Control." Concert tickets are $29.58 and general admission tickets for Casino Night are $75 and $100 for VIP. (Subscription: The Daily Tribune News)
- On Jan. 20, Cartersville Police conducted a traffic stop and subsequently searched the vehicle after receiving permission from the driver. Heroine, meth, Suboxone and an open bottle of vodka were found in the vehicle. The driver and passenger were arrested and taken to the Bartow County Jail. According to the CPD report, during a strip search the passenger was found with 2.3 grams of "a white, powdery substance suspected to be cocaine" and 5.9 grams of "a crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine."
