From The Bartow History Museum:The Bartow History Museum welcomes Leann Papp to its Lunch and Learn series on May 16th at noon. Papp will share information about the life and career of Pierce Manning Butler Young, who came to Cartersville as a child, later in life became a Major General in the Civil War, and is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery. Attendees will be introduced to the Young family, get an overview of the education and military career of Pierce, and hear a synopsis of his political career. Papp started volunteering 4 years ago with the Bartow History Archives and in that time participated in transcribing, along with several other volunteers, over 1800 documents, including letters, contracts and other types of correspondence between Pierce and his family, friends, cousins and business associates, and between other family members and their friends. Papp’s lecture is based on her research of Young as well as transcription of his letters. The lecture is free for members and included in the price of admission to the museum for non-members.
