Cartersville Bans 'Pill Mills'
The measure comes after a local "pill mill" was busted last year.

Members of the Cartersville City Council voted unanimously on Thursday night to ban "pill mills", a move that Police Chief Tommy Culpepper said is a response to "rampant" prescription drug abuse across the country.
"We see as much or more of that than we see of illicit drugs," Culpepper said.
Last April, establishments that distribute prescription drugs to individuals who may or may not need them. Assistant City Attorney Keith Lovell said then that abuse of prescription drugs is becoming a growing problem in the area.

The council also voted to pay for road resurfacing at three railroad crossings where CSX crews will be making repairs. Those crossings are on and Sugar Valley Road with the first two costing $17,500 and the third $6,500.

Work on the South Erwin Street crossing will begin Friday, and that area will be closed to traffic until Tuesday morning. The crossing at Old Mill Road will be closed next Tuesday-Friday for repairs. No date has been released for work on the Sugar Valley Road crossing.
