Man Charged With Torching Ex-Girlfriend's Van
A witness who was house-sitting for the woman while she was in custody at the Bartow County Jail said he saw the male walking away on foot.
ADAIRSVILLE, GA -- The ex-boyfriend of a woman in custody at the Bartow County Jail has been charged with setting her vehicle on fire last week in Adairsville.
Deputies and fire personnel with Bartow County Fire Department were dispatched to a call of a vehicle fire around 11:09 p.m. Saturday, Aug 5 in the 4400 block of Joe Frank Harris Parkway.
The responding deputy spoke with the witness, who said he house-sitting for the woman, who was in custody at the Bartow County Jail, when he observed flames outside home. He opened his door and noticed the woman's van "ablaze," the Bartow County Sheriff's Office incident report states.

The male told police he then saw the woman's ex-boyfriend, later identified as Terry Carnes, "fleeing on foot towards the road." (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. Or, if you have an iPhone, download the free Patch app).
Another witness said he noticed a truck driving up down Joe Frank Harris Parkway and a male wearing blue jeans and a white shirt walk across the property and towards the back of the residence where the alleged arson took place. The witness added he saw the male run back to the road where he was picked up by the truck a short time later.

Carnes was located at 89 Brown Loop Road and was charged with arson in the first degree under the Family Violence Act.
He was booked into the Bartow County Jail on that charge as well as felony probation violation. He remains held without bond.
