An industrial accident at Georgia Power’s Plant Bowen sent a man to an Atlanta hospital Wednesday morning.

Crews with Bartow County Emergency Medical Services responded to a call at the facility in Euharlee of a man who was on a coal train “and was dumped out (of) the bottom of the rail car when the coal was released,” said spokesperson Brad Cothran.
Cothran stated the crew evaluated the patient, and discovered he had femur fractures in both legs and “a large amount of blood loss.”

Crews requested a medical helicopter to transport the man to Grady Memorial Hospital.
According to Georgia Power, Plant Bowen is the country’s “ninth-largest power plant in net generation of electricity.” It began commercially operating in 1975, and is located nine miles southwest of Cartersville. It has about 400 employees.
Its four units of the coal-fired power plant are capable of producing 3,376 megawatts of electricity, and on average, can supply enough energy to power approximately 1.9 million homes, the company said.
