Man Robbed After Arranging To Sell iPad On 'Let Go'

The resident told a Bartow County sheriff's resident he met the prospective buyer at his house in Cartersville before the robbery occurred.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — A Cartersville resident said his iPad was taken by the man he arranged to sell the device to using a popular smartphone app. A deputy with the Bartow County Sheriff's Office was dispatched around 8:43 p.m. Thursday, June 21 to a report of robbery by sudden snatching in the 100 block of Middlebrook Drive.

The resident said he listed his Apple iPad for sale on Let Go, an app that allows users to buy and sell items within their surrounding area. Someone reached out to the seller and inquired about buying the tablet. The resident told the deputy that he tried to meet the prospective buyer, who referred to himself as 'Tony Baker,' at Walmart to conduct the transaction.

However, the seller "was told that he [the buyer] did not have a way to meet him, but he could come to his house," an incident report released by the sheriff's office states.

The seller drove to the home and was approached by a man who identified himself as Baker. According to the report, the seller said he allowed the man to look at the iPad and while perusing the tablet, the man told the resident he said he was waiting on his mother to arrive, so she can also look at the device.

After 45 minutes, the seller said he was getting ready to leave when Baker allegedly snatched the iPad out of his hand and ran behind a building. He was last seen running into the wooded area.

The only description provided in the report about the suspect was that he was a black male who stood about 6'4'' tall and had a goatee. The resident also told the deputy he had a locator program installed on the iPad, which could be used if the device remained on. However, he did not have the serial number to the iPad.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Bartow County Sheriff's Office at 770-382-5050.
