Here are the top three stories in Cartersville today:
- The Emerson City Council unanimously voted Jan. 9 to appoint Donnie Bagwell as the city's new mayor. Emerson City Councilman Stephen Bo Jordan nominated Bagwell, a former City Council member. The office of Emerson mayor has been vacant since the passing of former mayor Al Pallone last month. (Subscription: The Daily Tribune News)
- The Bartow County library System has regretfully canceled the Holocaust Program January 12 at 6pm. As they have not received confirmation from the speaker, they hope to reschedule sometime in the future. The Eighteen Artifacts: Story of Jewish Atlanta exhibit will still be on display at the Cartersville Public Library. (Bartow County Library System via Facebook)
- Bartow Superior Court Judge Suzanne Smith accepted a twenty-six-year-old woman's guilty plea. Charged with vehicular homicide, the defendant was sentenced to 15 years, five years to serve incarcerated and ordered to complete a residential drug treatment program. In September 2018, the defendant's car left the roadway and crashed into a telephone power pole, killing her 24-year-old passenger. She faced numerous charges including driving under the influence, homicide, and reckless driving. (wbhfradio.org)
