Here are the top three stories today in Cartersville:

  1. A Florida man was killed in Bartow on New Years Eve. According to reports, at approximately 11:43 AM, Saturday, December 31, a black Ford F-250 and camper was parked on the shoulder and the driver was outside of his vehicle checking his camper. A red GMC truck traveling south on the I-75 exit ramp traveled onto the right shoulder, striking the camper, the black Ford F-250, and the driver. The red GMC truck came to rest on the left shoulder of I-75 SB #285 entrance ramp. William Riley, 56 of Tallahassee, FL, was identified as the deceased driver of the black Ford F-250. The driver of the red GMC truck was arrested for DUI and other related traffic charges. (WBHF via Facebook)
  2. Voting precinct and polling place changes are possible this year. Bartow County Elections Supervisor Joseph Kirk says the elections office will be taking a close look at precinct lines and poll locations throughout the county in the coming months. Changes have already been discussed, but the elections office opted not to make any changes until the Georgia Registered Voter Information System (GRVIS) is online. Kirk expects to have a clearer idea of what potential changes could be on the table by the middle of this year, if not sooner. "And GRVIS will make it much easier to implement those changes." 3. The "Portraits of Hope"exhibit hosted by The Booth Museum: Stories of recovery from substance abuse takes center stage beginning today at the Booth Western Art Museum and will close March 5. The women portrayed in the paintings are graduates of The Lovelady Center, a faith-based recovery facility in Birmingham, Alabama. (Subscription: The Daily Tribune News)
