Officer, Cartersville Grad Killed In Line of Duty
Tim Brackeen, an officer with the Shelby, North Carolina, Police Department, was shot on Saturday while looking for a suspect.
SHELBY, NC -- A Cartersville High School graduate and police officer died Monday after he was shot in the line of duty in North Carolina.
Tim Brackeen, a K-9 officer with the Shelby Police Department, died Monday at the Carolinas Medical Center, two days after he was shot while on the job.
According to the Shelby Police Department's Facebook page, Brackeen was in the area of Parkview Street just after midnight Saturday, Sept. 10 looking for a suspect wanted on outstanding warrants.

Soon after arriving on the scene, officers heard several shots fired and when they went to the area where the gunshots originated, they found the officer had been injured.

The agency said on its Facebook page that Brackeen, 38, had been with the department since July 2004.

Vicky Durham, spokesperson with Cartersville City Schools, told Patch Brackeen graduated from Cartersville High School in 1997.
Brackeen leaves behind a wife and one daughter. A GoFundMe page has been created to help the Brackeen family pay for emergency expenses.
The officer's body was escorted on Tuesday from the hospital in Charlotte to the Cecil Burton Funeral Home in Shelby.
Investigators have issued arrest warrants for 23-year-old Irvin Lucien Fenner, Jr. in connection to Brackeen's shooting death.
