Cartersville Man Killed In Officer-Involved Shooting
The suspect allegedly pointed a firearm at officers and sheriff's deputies who were trying to arrest him on two outstanding warrants.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred early Friday evening in Cartersville.
The GBI's assistance was requested by the Cartersville Police Department following the July 1 shooting, which occurred during the "apprehension and arrest of a fugitive wanted for aggravated assault and parole violation," the GBI said.
At around 6:20 p.m., Cartersville officers and Bartow County sheriff's deputies arrived at a home on Parmenter Street to arrest 30-year-old Steve McQueen on those two aforementioned warrants, the GBI said.

The aggravated assault warrant was sworn out Thursday evening by a Cartersville officer who had attempted to arrest McQueen that night. McQueen, the GBI said, allegedly pointed a gun at the officer and evaded capture.
As officers and sheriff's deputies arrived at the home, they evacuated the occupants and began to pursue McQueen. Those law enforcement officials made contact with McQueen, who was armed with a handgun, the GBI said.

Those officers and deputies "repeatedly commanded" McQueen to drop the firearm. A Taser was fired at the 30-year-old resident, but the GBI notes it was not effective in subduing him.
At that point, McQueen pointed his gun at officers and deputies and at that point, "a deputy and an officer fired at McQueen, striking and killing him," the agency added.
Emergency medical crews were called in to respond to the shooting, but McQueen had already passed away at the scene.
An autopsy will be performed by the GBI's Medical Examiner's Office, and the state agency will conduct an investigation to determine what occurred during the incident.
Once that investigation is complete, the case file will be turned over to the District Attorney's Office for review.
