Man Shot By Cartersville Police Faces Aggravated Assault Charge: GBI
Cartersville Police said the person was shooting at an officer responding to a call Thursday.
CARTERSVILLE, GA — A man shot by a Cartersville police officer around 6:15 a.m. Thursday near a Joe Frank Harris Parkway gas station is now facing a charge, the GBI said.
Jose Luis Rivera, 45, is accused of shooting at a responding officer during a foot chase, the GBI said.
The officer was dispatched after a call of a person pointing a gun at another person, Cartersville Police said.

Witnesses told authorities Rivera shot a gun into the gas station's front window and pointed the gun at customers in the parking lot, the GBI said.
According to the GBI, the responding officer saw Rivera in the gas station parking lot with his hands behind his back. The officer asked Rivera to show his hands, then Rivera ran behind the gas station, the GBI said.

Rivera is accused of shooting at the officer during the chase, and the officer shot Rivera, the GBI said.
Authorities said Rivera was taken to Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center with injuries that are not life threatening.
The GBI said police recovered a handgun from the scene.
The officer was not injured in the shooting, police said.
A warrant was issued, charging Rivera on suspicion of aggravated assault on a peace officer, the GBI said.
Following the GBI's investigation, the case will go to the Bartow County District Attorney's Office for review.
