“The student has been removed from school, and will proceed through the Bartow County School System disciplinary process,” Bartow County Schools spokesperson Cheree Dye said.

However, the Bartow County Campus Police Department is awaiting a search warrant to investigate the phone’s contents, and charges are pending based on the information received from the analysis, she added.

Dye said school administrators on Friday, Feb. 26 personally called parents to inform students who could have been ”directly affected” by the incident.

A meeting was held Monday, Feb. 29 to keep parents abreast of the situation.

“The Bartow County School System takes this situation very seriously,” said Superintendent Dr. John Harper. “We will not hesitate to do whatever is necessary to protect our students and send a clear message that this kind of action is completely inappropriate.”
