Plans Call For Building New Road From Cartersville To Rome

The proposed Rome-Cartersville Development Corridor would build a new connection between U.S. 411 and Interstate 75.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- The Georgia Department of Transportation will hold a public information open house to roll out preliminary alternatives for a Rome-Cartersville Development Corridor. The open house will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24 at Faith United Methodist Church.

Bartow and Floyd county residents interested in learning more about the proposed project are encouraged to attend the meeting and express their thoughts and preferences.

The proposed project would provide a new connection between U.S. 411 and I-75, allowing for improved mobility for commuters, residents and freight throughout Floyd and Bartow counties. The corridor would relieve congestion and enhance safety along the existing U.S. 411/S.R. 20 to I-75 corridor (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. “The Georgia DOT strongly believes that since this project is intended to serve the people of Bartow and Floyd counties, the ideas and preferences of these people are important and can make a difference in our planning process,” said DeWayne Comer, district engineer at the Georgia DOT office in Cartersville. “This meeting will provide the public with another opportunity to view the proposed alternatives, ask questions, and express their thoughts, preferences and concerns.”

The open house will be informal and the public is invited to attend anytime between 5 and 7 p.m. The church, located at 501 Grassdale Road in Cartersville, is also accessible to persons with disabilities. Accommodations for people with disabilities can be arranged with advance notice by calling Leah Vaughan at (404) 377-9147.
