Qualifying Underway For Bartow County Elections
Qualifying for federal, state and local elections end Friday, March 9.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — Qualifying began Monday for elected officials and prospective candidates in Bartow County who want to make their mark in public serve at the local level. So far, residents will have to contend with at least one contested local election.
Incumbent Bartow County School Board member John Howard has qualified to seek re-election as a Republican to the District 1 seat. He will face a challenge in the May 22 Republican primary from Tony Ross, a local businessman.
Bartow School Board members Davis Nelson of District 2 and Derek Keeney of District 3, both Republicans, have also qualified to seek re-election. As of 4:22 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, both men have not drawn opposition (For more news like this, find your local Patch here. In the Georgia Senate, incumbent Bruce Thompson (R-White) has qualified for re-election to the District 14 while incumbent Republican Chuck Hufstetler also qualified to run for re-election to the Senate District 52 seat.
For the Georgia House of Representatives, incumbent Republican Christian Coomer of Cartersville has also qualified to run for re-election to the District 14 seat while Matthew Gambill and Allan Levene, both Republicans from Bartow County, will seek the District 15 seat. Incumbent Rep. Paul Battles will not seek re-election.

Incumbent Judge G. Carey Nelson also qualified for the Cherokee Judicial Circuit Superior Court seat, which covers Bartow and Gordon counties.
Qualifying continues from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Thursday, March 8 and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, March 9.
